Philly Cheese Steak Egg Rolls
Ingredients:
- 10 egg roll wrappers
- 2 cups cooked sirloin steak strips
- 1/2 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/2 purple onion, thinly sliced
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 5 slices provolone cheese, halved
- Canola oil, for frying
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
For the Sauce:
- 1/2 cup light mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp horseradish
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/8 tsp fresh cracked pepper
Directions:
- Fill a fryer or a deep pot with at least 1 inch of canola oil and heat it to 375°F (190°C).
- Melt butter in a sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add the green bell pepper and purple onion, and sauté until soft and tender, about 5 minutes.
- Add the steak strips and 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder to the pan. Stir to combine and heat through. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
- Place an egg roll wrapper on a clean, dry surface. Brush all edges with the lightly beaten egg.
- Place a few strips of steak, pepper, and onion mixture in the center of the wrapper at an angle. Top with a half slice of provolone cheese.
- Fold the bottom corner of the wrapper tightly over the filling, then fold in the right and left sides. Roll towards the remaining corner and seal the egg roll closed.
- Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Fry the egg rolls in batches of two or three at a time, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown, about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Drain the cooked egg rolls on a paper towel-lined plate.
For the Sauce:
- In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, milk, horseradish, garlic powder, and cracked pepper. Whisk until smooth. Adjust the horseradish to taste if more kick is desired.
