Italian Christmas Cookies

Easy Italian Christmas Cookies

A festive favorite, these cookies are fantastic for cookie exchanges, family gatherings, or just a cozy night in.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 30 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup milk
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the icing:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the flour and baking powder. Gradually add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  3. Shape and Bake: Drop the dough by rounded spoonfuls onto parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes or until lightly golden.
  4. Cool and Decorate: Allow cookies to cool on a wire rack. For the icing, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Dip the top of each cooled cookie into the icing, then sprinkle with colored sprinkles.
  5. Set the Icing: Let the icing set completely before storing in an airtight container.
